Bulgarian Music and Movie Themes

After a few years into my research, I am more than certain, there is no end of how much we can learn on Bulgarian music. I have decided to start this blog now, because I would like to show and talk about Bulgarian music as much as possible. There is no better way of experiencing music than listening.

So, I hope by posting some interesting facts of what I am learning during the research proccess on classical and folk music in Bulgaria could become interesting and be followed by music lovers who would like to hear something old, but still NEW.

The first series of posts will be dedicated to Bulgarian movie themes which has been wordly recognized, but maybe not everyone knows that the themes of their music are actually based on Bulgarian folk songs.

The Movie "300" is a 2006 American epic war film based on the 1998 comic series 300 by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. Both are fictionalized retellings of the Battle of Thermopylae within the Persian Wars.

300 Soundtrack called "Message For The Queen" by Tyler Bates, is originally a Bulgarian Song from the folk region close to the Bulgarian/Macedonian borders - Zajdi Zajdi.

Below is the song from the movie and to follow the original folk song which has some of the most unique features of Bulgaria/Macedonian folk music.

Here are the lyrics of the Folk Song, which are real poetry!

English : Hide... hide... bright sun Hide..... get dark You too bright moon Hide... hide.... Drawn Cry woods, cry sister We should both cry You- for your leaves I -for my youth Your leaves, woods, sister They will come back one day My youth, woods, sister It will never come back
